Entrepreneurs – Are you one?

You need to have a particular mind-set to be a successful entrepreneur.
How to avoid the pitfalls that many a person makes?

A lot of patience, the ability to ask for forgiveness not permission and committing errors of commission and not omission are the basic qualities that you should inculcate to make you a successful entrepreneur.
How to understand your risk profile?

You must be energetic enough to manage your business because don’t ever forget that you are your own boss, and any losses that you might incur because of laziness, are going to affect you and not anyone else. You must have an excellent sense of timing to determine if you are managing it wisely as well as if you are launching yourself at the right time. Can you manage to absorb the shock if you fail? This is an important question entrepreneurs often forget to ask themselves. Please remember that having a failure is not always fatal. In fact, we learn from our success and our failures often precede big successes. Apart from eliminating the superman syndrome, it teaches us to understand ourselves better and define our strengths and weaknesses in clearer terms.

Is your concept a terrific one?

It should be because this is the aspect which will make the difference in the long run but let it be reasonable enough that it will be achievable. Do you believe in the enterprise yourself? Are you ready to dedicate your life to this? It should attract the attention and energy of others. If it is not able to create anything stronger than lukewarm interest, it is not definitely going to make a stir.

What else should you look at?

Is your target market large and still growing? Does the market need the product or service you are offering? You must also consider the factors which drive a company; like whether the market will show interest for my products or services once they are available. For example, will pet care services likely be sold in a district where lower middle class people live? Consider these things when you are trying to target your market.

What should the entrepreneur do to understand the competition?

Consider how crowded the space is where you intend to operate. You should move fast to supersede the moves of your competition. The competition should not be far ahead of you and if they are, you should attempt to learn how they reached that point. Can you offer a core technology with proprietary advantage which is a ‘break-through’ kind of a thing or some mundane offering with no competitive edge at all? You should develop it further if that is the case and the advantages should be very clearly defined by your sales team. Try to make it sustainable at the same time. Identify the steps you should take to remain competitive.

What kind of a business model you have?

You should be making money by judicious use of your business channels. The margins should be healthy and be workable over a long period of time.
How much is your worth?

You should be able to raise enough money not forgetting the all important ‘working capital’. You must also clearly determine exactly how much you need. Try to consider whether or not you will need the funds up front. Can your team be used for this?

What is the quality of your team?

Your management board, sales team, technologists, attorneys or accountants should always be a step above the average class if you want to succeed permanently in your enterprise. A team that is familiar with and desirable of their goals is also one that reaches them.
So, after reading this article, do you think that you are entrepreneurial material? If you’re prepared to go the distance, you just may be.
