Making a Good Landing Page

Almost all companies having a website would like to make it to number one in the search engine rankings. One effective way of achieving this objective is by filling up web pages with search optimized keywords to make them appear in the highly coveted list.
Perhaps the most important aspect in developing a functional website is having a landing page that is persuasive enough to lead site visitors into an eventual sale, or generating a reasonable level of traffic to get you in the search engine rankings. A good landing page is one that will clearly explain your products, services and intentions while having a simple and organized process of purchase or job order.
What is a landing page? A landing page pertains to the destination URL a searcher is led to after clicking on a result in the search engine. When a user types in a set of keywords on the search engine browser, the nearest matches to the set of keywords appear in the results. Hence it is vital to create a landing page with a definitive keyword set in mind for your target market. The closer it matches the user’s search, the higher your website will rank in the list.
Having a good landing page is highly significant in any web business because a good impression is always lasting! Your landing page will serve as the forerunner of your entire website such that the ability for it to entice visitors into browsing further on is totally dependent on its marketing success. Arriving and exiting quickly from an uncharacteristic and empty landing page is one thing, staying on a landing page for longer than 3 minutes is another. This would notably mean that your landing page has accomplished its purpose of encouraging your site visitors to stay awhile and explore your website.
Apart from being convincing, your landing page should also be interesting enough to get bookmarked or placed in the user’s My Favorites tab. The moment your website achieves this, then it is a strong indication that the user or searcher has an implied intention to revisit your site without having to go through the search engines again. A good landing page will have every satisfied user or searcher coming back to your website time and again.
So what makes a landing page tick? An effective landing page leads the user to a desired result such as buying a product or signing up for a newsletter. This page should define and outline the contents of the website as well as have working links to other pages in the website. For Ecommerce websites, a bad link or a slow download can lose potential sales simply because they are annoying. The processes indicated on the landing page should be clear and not confusing, and should have straightforward directions as to the purchase of a product or service.
Because internet users have a very short attention span, engaging them to open more of your web pages could be a very challenging task. Therefore, your landing page should be one that can capture a potential buyer’s thought and imagination while subtly leading him on to a sale or sign-up. In the same light, your landing page should not be overloaded with words but be filled with rich and useful information presented in web friendly form.
