The Beginner’s Guide to Succeeding in an Online Business

Getting started can be difficult and expensive. Here are two helpful tips to start running down that path to success with a little change left in your pocket!

Becoming an E-mail Marketer
You’re in that knitting craze. You have piles of sweaters and mittens scattered about the entire house but you just can’t figure out how to sell them. Nearly everyone that you know keeps suggesting that you sell your knitted goods online. The thought popping into most people’s heads whenever they hear “You should sell these online” is usually: ‘Yeah but I don’t have a website’. Well guess what? You don’t need a website to get started in an online business. Sure, it’s nice to have but it’s not a necessity. There are all kinds of sites that will be happy to promote your materials and, as long as there is that convenient thing called email (which millions predict will be in existence for quite a long time) and something you want to sell, then you are set!

Here are the few basic things you’ll need to have in order to get started:

- The products you want to sell. It will probably sell better if it’s not mass-produced – so remember that. People like to have something that’s unique.
- A digital camera. Now, this can even be ‘something borrowed’.
- An internet connection fast enough to accommodate large image uploads.
- A simple PC with simple programs (MS Office with Word is a preferable choice to write on and Adobe Photoshop for picture editing is a must).
- An e-mail account. Usage of free web mails is okay. Their storage is getting larger by the minute!

And here are the things you should do:

- Target your market. (You could start with your friends and family and then just let them spread the word!)
- Take pictures of your products and upload them into your computer so that you can easily access them when you need to send them out in an email.
- Join mailing lists (there are tons of them on Yahoo Groups for starters!) and politely offer the products to the members. No spam, just a friendly nudge.
- List information about your product in internet marketplaces such as eBay. You won’t believe how many online shoppers are out there, looking for your stuff!

Now this might sound so very simple… and it really is… however, you must be clear about product quality, delivery and payment systems to your customers. Be a trustworthy seller and before you know it, customers’ emails will be filling up your inbox.

Get Paid to Blog
So you’re not exactly keen on producing stuff to sell, but still want to have a successful online business. Start up a blog and write about stuff you like. Once you’ve done this, join sites that actually pay you to blog. They do exist and they are always looking for bloggers. You can check these sites out:

www.payperpost.com
www.reviewme.com
www.sponsoredreviews.com
www.blogvertise.com

And they have many more of those on the World Wide Web. Just make sure you don’t fall for scams. Do a bit of thorough research before you decide where to sign up as a paid blogger.

The thing about getting paid to blog, or more popularly becoming a professional blogger, is that you have to be really internet savvy and really in the know of new things. You’ve got to have a genuine interest in the things that you are writing about. Your passion is key and originality always appeals to readers. Keep a good eye on the good stuff at the marketplace, and blend the link in your posts in such fashion so readers would really read what you write instead of getting turned off seeing that you obviously are paid to post. One last and probably most important thing… honesty is the best policy. If you write about something you’ve never experienced on a reviews page, then your credibility is at stake. As wise writers of our time say: Try stuff, eat out, live life and write! Bring that philosophy into your blogging life…

…and you shall never go hungry again.
