Why creativity is a must when starting a Home Based Business

Albert Einstein:
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

Entrepreneurship requires that the individual possess a degree of creativity in his approach to running a home based business. Creativity is the spark of inventiveness that lights up the home business. The entrepreneur should ensure that the work environment and the home business culture both encourage creativity.

Rita Mae Brown:
Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts. And never hope more than you work.

Building a creatively agile home based business will not only help you survive but give you a powerful competitive advantage. Modern business has moved beyond certainties. Rules and markets are constantly changing. Product life cycles are growing shorter in the face of technological advancements. It is necessary to be a creative thinker to meet these business challenges and be proactive in an ever competitive market. Creativity should become part of your home based business and form part of the way that you interact with each other.

Arthur Koestler:
Creativity is a type of learning process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same individual.

Beatrix Potter:
Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality.

Everybody is born with natural creativeness. It is true that most of us are born with a creative streak and we spend our whole life trying to suppress it. We are taught at school and college to be logical and regimented in our thought processes. These disciplines are important but should not be learned at the expense of creativity. Social norms and life experience serve to diminish creativity. The good news is that the creative spirit can be fostered and revived.

The Cox report sums it up

Risk aversion has to be overcome. That’s not to imply a wish to see more of a‘gung-ho’ attitude to running business, far from it, but too many businesses simply ‘tick over’ when, with a little more enterprise, they could grow and develop. It isn’t the company that’s ailing or in trouble that is the focus of this review; it’s the company with unrealized potential. The challenge is to demonstrate how this potential can be exploited without jeopardising the business.
