The Different types of internet marketing for a home based business


There are a number of different technologies that can be used to market your home based business on the web. These technologies are known as Web 2.0 technologies. Each technology should not be considered in isolation as a combination of them will build a powerful marketing tool.

1. Pod casts

The latest rage is the Pod cast. Pod casts can be downloaded from your web page onto customers Ipod or other mobile device. Pod casts are similar to radio advertising. A home based business can record an interesting Pod cast giving more information on the product or service. The scope of the Pod cast is limitless. New Pod casts can be automatically delivered to you customers computer or Ipod.

2. Blogs

Blogs are a great addition to a website. Blogs a re a type of web diary that cab be used to store information, give advice, and discuss aspects of a product or service. A Blog allows a home based business to have an interactive relationship with their customers. Unlike advertising which is a one way communication, Blogs give the customer an chance to leave feedback.


3. Video casts

Video casts are similar to Pod casts in that they allow video images to be downloaded onto customer’s computers. Video casts require more bandwidth and technical ability than a simple Pod cast. A video cast can enhance a home based business website, and provide the customer with important information on the service or product on offer.

4. Wikis

A Wikipedia can be thought of as an online encyclopedia. The difference is that the Wiki is written by the contributors and/or customers. Everyone has a chance to contribute to the Wiki and thus a repository of knowledge is built by the different contributions. Wikis have been used by businesses to build up product data sheets or product manuals on their products. These manuals are effectively written by the customer. The home based business can use Wikis to build up knowledge on product and services.

5. Forums

Forums are similar to Blogs. A forum allows a customer to discuss various issues relating to the product or service with the home based business and other customers. Forums allow a home based business to have an interactive relationship with their customers. Forums can hold the attention of customers if they are well run and informative. Discussions can be held under a number of topics.

6. Chat rooms

Chat rooms are places where real-time discussions can be held by the home based business with customers or even between customers. It provides a real-time environment for interacting.

7. Banners

Banners are simple advertisements placed on relevant websites that advertise the home based business, its products and its services offered. Banners can be placed on other websites where there is a chance that you will attract the type of customer that will be interested in your product. Banners are an inexpensive way to advertise the business.


8. Surveys

A survey is a powerful tool that can be included in a forum or website that canvasses the customers for an opinion. Important market research can be conducted inexpensively via a web survey. The results of the survey are instantaneous. Surveys are useful tools in deciding on product launches, logos, or just feedback on an existing item.

9. Photo galleries

Photo galleries can be set up to present your products in catalogue form. They can be used to show the results of your home based business services.

Home based businesses have access to the web and should use the technologies available to market their products effectively. Web marketing is a powerful and often relatively inexpensive tool for the home based business.
