Don't limit your marketing to just the internet


The Internet is a powerful medium for marketing your home based business. It is highly effective and relatively inexpensive. However other traditional forms of marketing you home based business must be considered.

1. The best source of new business for your home based is from your existing clients. It must be your goal to get repeat business from happy satisfied clients. It is often true that it is better to retain an existing client than gain a new one.
2. Referrals are a good source of marketing. Word of mouth referrals cost nothing and a re a powerful source of new business. The way to nurture this form of marketing is to offer an excellent service from your home based business and keep your existing clients happy. Happy clients will spread the good news and soon you will have new customers knocking at your door.
3. The local business directory is an inexpensive way to gain exposure under a business listing. A considerable amount of customers still use the yellow pages or the business directory to find the home based business that can offer a solution to their problems. Make sure you are listed.
4. It’s great to appear in the community newspaper. This will give good exposure to in the local community. Community papers will run small interest articles. Try doing something newsworthy, or taking out a small advertisement which is often accompanied by an article.
5. Sponsor the local school or football team. A small sponsorship can increase exposure and give the home based business a positive image. Get involved in some type of community project related to your product or service. It’s a good way to increase your profile in the community.
6. Take out a commercial in the regional newspaper or on regional radio. This is expensive but may be worth it depending on the circulation. If its in your budget for your home based business, then its money that could be well worth spent.
7. Postal drops in the local letterboxes are also an option. This all adds up to increasing your exposure to the community.
8. Telephone canvassing is another method of informing the local community of your existence and the benefit of your home based business product.

This list is by no means complete, but it is obvious that there are a lot of alternative ways of marketing your home based business. There is no need to limit marketing strategy to the internet. A comprehensive marketing plan should include different mediums of advertising to maximize market penetration. A good marketing strategy is to take advantage of all the different mediums available and apply them to compliment each other in a total marketing solution.

Different forms of marketing have different applications and strengths in the context of marketing the home based business. It is often short sighted to pursue one type of marketing strategy to the exclusion of other forms of advertising. Often they are complimentary in nature.
